Can you knit? Love duct tape? Skateboard like a pro? There may be a scholarship in your future. Here are just a few of the out-of-the-norm scholarships worth checking out:
1. Calling all callers.
Know the difference between hail, feed, comeback and mating duck calls? You may want to apply for the Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest awards, ranging from $200 to $1,500.
2. Special rights for lefties!
Southpaws who plan to attend Juniata College can earn a need-based scholarship from the Frederick and Mary F. Beckley Scholarship Fund.
3. A call for tall.
For girls who are at least 5’10” and men who are at least 6’2” Tall Clubs International offers $1,000 worth of help in the Kae Sumner Einfeldt Scholarship.
4. Big money for small people.
The Little People of America offers a scholarship for students 4’10” or less in height.
5. Don’t be sheepish if you knit!
Show off your wool-knitting skills and you could win a $1,500 scholarship (as well as some wool fabric!) from the National Make It Yourself with Wool awards.
6. Stuck on scholarships?
The Duck Brand Duct Tape Stuck on Prom Contest honors couples who attend a high school prom wearing complete attire or accessories made from duct tape. Awards vary from $1,000 to $3,000 per person.
7. “Board” with other scholarships?
High school seniors with a GPA of at least 2.5 can apply for the Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
8. Not your “average” scholarship.
If you’re going to Ball State University and aren’t up for any outstanding scholarships you may want to apply for The David Letterman Telecommunications Scholarship for “average students with a creative mind.” The prizes aren’t so average: $100, $5,000 and $3,333.
9. Pray for it!
DePauw University’s communications department awards a scholarship to the student who writes and delivers the best sermon. Now that’s appealing to a higher authority!
